Come be part of the pottery community at GAC! Adult Pottery is a class where you can develop or refine your skills on the wheel or with hand-building techniques—whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced potter! This 10-week, multi-level class is open to adults and mature high school students, and offers a flexible learning experience tailored to a variety of skill levels.

Beginners will focus on essential techniques like centering clay on the wheel, throwing basic pots, handbuilding, and learning foundational glazing methods. For intermediate and advanced students, the class provides a great opportunity to deepen your expertise, refine your technique, and explore new creative possibilities. Plus, you'll have access to 6 hours per week of open studio time to practice and work on your projects outside of class.

This is a fantastic chance to build your skills at a great value, with individualized instruction and a collaborative, supportive environment. While materials and firing fees are not included, the knowledge and experience you'll gain over 10 weeks will be well worth the investment. Learn the traditional techniques of etching on copper! In this class, we will practice drypoint, hard ground etching, and aquatint to develop images with a full range of values, and, of course, printing those images on GAC's American French Tool Co. press. Both experienced printmakers and beginners are welcome. This class is open to adults and mature teens of all skill levels and all materials are included. Students have access to 6 hours per week of open studio time to practice and work on projects outside of class.

This class is for intermediate and advanced students only.

In this class, we’ll explore the art of layering colored clays, creating pieces through both hand building and wheel throwing.Teaching Artist Kim Waldhauer will start by guiding students through making their own colored clays using slip and stains — a hands-on, creative process from the very beginning. From there, Kim will share her knowledge of creating patterns, as well as embracing the beautiful surprises that come with the process. 

We’ll wrap up with a glazing session, with special instruction on how to let the clay’s natural colors take center stage, rather than get lost under the glaze. Students choose their own colors — within the wonderful range that the stains make possible. 

Registration for this class includes a materials fee for mason stains. Additional materials and firing fees will be required.

Japanese woodblock printing, or Mokuhanga, is one of the oldest methods of full color printing, and is completely nontoxic and water-based. In this class, students will learn carving technique, kento registration, and the inking and printing of Mokuhanga blocks in multiple layers. This class is open to adults and mature teens of all skill levels and all materials are included. 

Students have access to 6 hours per week of open studio time to practice and work on projects outside of class.

Explore creating dynamic clay sculptures in this advanced hand-building class with teaching artist and sculptor Ada Pilar Cruz. This class is open to both sculptors as well as potters working in a sculptural way.  Class runs for 10 weeks and includes 6 hours a week of open studio time. Materials and firing fees are not included.

This is a mixed-level class, which may include beginners, intermediate, and advanced-level students. We find having students of varied skill levels can create an enriched learning experience for all participants.

Are you writing a memoir? Have you been taking notes for a novel but are unsure where to begin? Do you wonder if your work is ready for submission? This five-week course is intended for writers of fiction and nonfiction who want to hone their craft. Through readings, discussions and editorial feedback of up to 20 pages of your writing, we’ll explore voice, structure and revision to best tell the stories that matter.

Cyanotype: A Photographic Method

Discover the magic of cyanotype, one of the oldest photographic printing processes. This class gives participants extended time to explore intricate designs on both paper and fabric. In addition to printing with natural objects, students are welcome to bring exposed film and other transparencies to experiment with. Through demonstrations and guided practice, participants will have the support they need along with room to explore independently.

This class is for adults and mature teenagers of all skill levels and includes 6 hours a week of open studio time. All materials are included.
