Adult Pottery: daytime classes

Come be part of the pottery community at GAC! Adult Pottery is a class where you can develop or refine your skills on the wheel or with hand-building techniques—whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced potter! This 10-week, multi-level class is open to adults and mature high school students, and offers a flexible learning experience tailored to a variety of skill levels.
Beginners will focus on essential techniques like centering clay on the wheel, throwing basic pots, handbuilding, and learning foundational glazing methods. For intermediate and advanced students, the class provides a great opportunity to deepen your expertise, refine your technique, and explore new creative possibilities. Plus, you'll have access to 6 hours per week of open studio time to practice and work on your projects outside of class.
This is a fantastic chance to build your skills at a great value, with individualized instruction and a collaborative, supportive environment. While materials and firing fees are not included, the knowledge and experience you'll gain over 10 weeks will be well worth the investment. Whether you're looking to start from scratch or take your pottery to the next level, this class offers something for everyone!

Family Clay Studio
with Renee Curci Ivanoff

For kids from 7 to 17 plus you, their family member! Set a date with your child, niece, nephew, or friend, and join us on Saturday mornings. Have fun creating, exploring, and working with clay together. Family Clay Studio is a wonderful way to share and create with clay. You’ll work together learning how to hand-build, throw on the wheel, glaze, and learn a bit about the kiln. Your glazed and fired pieces will be your clay treasures to take home. Class runs for 8 weeks and includes materials and firing fees.
This class is for families ONLY, not for individuals. Price is by the individual, please purchase a spot for each family member.

Pottery for Teens
with Renee Curci Ivanoff

Ages: 13 - 19
We are pleased to offer a pottery class just for teens!
This class will provide a break from the stress of middle and high school and serve as an excellent place to nurture their inner selves while learning all aspects of ceramics. Students will focus on developing skills in wheel throwing, hand building, surface design, and glazing.
No experience required! Teenagers at all levels of experience can be accommodated in our small classes. For teens ages 13 and up.
This class includes a fee for all materials. Firing fees are the responsibility of each student.

Experiments in Glaze Chemistry
with GAC Team

Garrison Art Center is pleased to offer a monthly evening class for advanced clay students! In this class, co-taught by Ada Pilar Cruz and Lisa Knaus, we will channel our inner mad scientists and focus on exploring different glaze chemical reactions. We will conduct glaze experiments, test them in different firing processes, and share our findings with each other to further our understanding of the results.
This class will meet on April 9, May 14, and June 11 (once a month, for three months) and is only open to current GAC pottery students with at least one year of experience in clay.

Summer Drop-In Pottery: 4 classes
with GAC Team

The Summer Drop-In Pottery is only available to students who have been enrolled in a Garrison Art Center adult pottery class in 2024 or 2025.
Summer Pottery is back again!
How does it work?
Summer Drop-In Pottery allows you to attend 4, 6, or 8 of our drop-in pottery classes this summer, taught by one of GAC’s Pottery teaching artists. Each class is 3 hours long, and 3 different time slots are available each week.
When does it start?
Summer drop-in pottery classes will begin June 30 and run through August 21. There will be a short break before our regular fall classes start in early September.
What times/days are available?
There are 3 class times a week: Sundays 2:00pm-5:00pm, Mondays 6:00pm-9:00pm, and Thursdays 6:30pm - 9:30pm.
Do I have to come on the same day/time each week?
No! You can sign up for multiple classes in the same week, and skip a week (or more!) whenever you like.
How do I schedule my classes?
Lisa will be handling the scheduling. Once you have purchased your Summer Drop-In Pottery classes, contact lisa@garrisonartcenter.org with which days/times you would like to come. We will be limiting the number of people in each class, so you must sign up ahead of time for the days you want to attend.
We cannot accommodate students who show up without signing up first.
4 classes isn’t enough for me! Can I sign up for more?
Sure! Feel free to sign up for as many Summer Drop-In Pottery classes as you like. We have 6 and 8 class passes available as well.
Can anyone sign up for Summer Drop-In Pottery and use the studio?
The Summer Pottery Pass is only available to students who have been enrolled in a Garrison Art Center adult pottery class in 2024 or 2025.
