Teen Classes

Pottery for Teens

We are pleased to offer a pottery class just for teens!

This class will provide a break from the stress of middle and high school and serve as an excellent place to nurture their inner selves while learning all aspects of ceramics. Students will focus on developing skills in wheel throwing, hand building, surface design, and glazing.

No experience required! Teenagers at all levels of experience can be accommodated in our small classes. For teens ages 13 and up.

This class includes a fee for all materials. Firing fees are the responsibility of each student.

We believe art should be accessible to all. Financial assistance is available for those that qualify.

There is no class on Saturday, May 27.

An Artist's Oracle

NEW CLASS!

Using archetype as a springboard, each participant will be able to create an oracle deck for meditation or personal divination. These homespun images will be created using acrylic paint, ink, pen, copies of personal photos for collage, and image transfer. When we finish, you will have your own deck of 12 cards to use in your own way and to build on beyond the course. This class is open to adults and mature teens of all skill levels.

Big + Bold: Drawing to Painting for HS Students

NEW CLASS!

Learn basic drawing skills and develop them into big and bold paintings!

We will start with learning how to draw simple found objects, following teaching artist Beth Tango as she takes you through the process step by step, how to draw basic shapes from simple to more complex ones. Then students will choose their favorite drawing and turn it into a bold, fun, colorful acrylic painting! Students are encouraged to develop their own style. This class includes a fee for basic materials and is for teenagers ages 13-19 of all skill levels are welcome.

Drypoint Etchings with Watercolor

In this printmaking class, participants will learn the iterative and flexible process of drypoint etching. Drypoint, a form of intaglio printmaking without acid, is a method by which the artist draws into a surface with a needle or diamond point. Participants will gain a working knowledge of drypoint methods, working with plexiglass surfaces along with experimental recycled materials such as milk cartons and takeaway containers. Students will also get a chance to add watercolor to etchings and incorporate color. This class is for adults and teenagers of all skill levels and includes 2 hours a week of open studio time.

The Road to Color: Exploring Graphite, Charcoal, and Pastels

NEW CLASS!

Pastels are not wimpy! While the word conjures up soft and grayed colors, pastel paintings can be exceptionally vibrant and exciting. In this 4-week class with 3-hour sessions, we will focus on refining drawing skills, using graphite and charcoal, and then adding color to the mix. At the end of the class, you will have several striking images, using a photographic reference or a live model in class as a jumping-off point. This class is available for adults and mature teens of all skill levels and includes basic materials needed for class. 

Topics covered include:

● Creating/choosing a reference photo 

● Lighting for photography or life models 

● Drawing through the ages, and artists to study 

● Basic drawing fundamentals, and anatomy for portraiture

● Materials to create the image, and how to use them 

● Processes: Beginning and Refining 

● Demonstrations to show as well as tell 

● At-easel instruction and tips 

● Group critiques 

● How to store and frame your artwork

Relief Printmaking for all levels

Explore the possibilities of relief printing with linoleum in this class with expert printmaker and founder of Fledgling Press, Melissa Schlobohm. Students will explore relief printing as it relates to both color and pattern.  Learn each step of the process in depth, from creating an image, carving, inking, operating a press, and editioning. This class welcomes beginner and experienced printmakers alike.  This class is for adults and mature teenagers of all skill levels and includes 2 hours a week of open studio time.

Watercolor Essentials

Bring your world to life in shades of color! Learn the essentials of painting with watercolor. Get to know your materials, learn techniques, and how to apply composition and value. Learn how the color wheel works and take on creating your own watercolor masterpieces! This class is great for beginners as well as experienced artists that want to take watercolor to the next level. New students will receive an email about what supplies they will need to bring; this class does not include materials. This class is open to adults and mature teens of all skill levels.

Analog Collage and Mixed Media

Calendar Next available session starts Apr 22, 2023 at 3 pm, runs for 4 weeks

Play around with materials, collaging, and photo transfer in this fun four-week class. Over the course of the first two weeks, students will sift through, collect, forage, and collage materials that are inspiring to each individual, then experiment and build a completed piece of artwork. For the second two weeks, students will learn how to incorporate mixed media and photo transfer methods into their projects. This class includes a fee to cover materials, but students are also encouraged to bring different ephemera items to work with. This class is for adults and mature teenagers of all skill levels.
