This class is for anyone who loves to draw! Open to students of all levels, including total beginners, perceptual drawing is an intuitive drawing approach with a focus on direct observation. We will start by drawing a dynamic still life set-up and move into drawing from a live, dressed model, while experiencing the ability to draw with ease and enjoyment.

Specific elements of observational drawing, such as three-dimensional form, positive and negative space, perspective, proportion, value, and composition will be introduced and incorporated into your work. For inspiration, we will study the drawings of Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Mary Cassatt, and Cezanne, in order to deepen our understanding of Master artists and, as Picasso recommended, steal what we can! The goal of this class is for you to develop a joyful drawing practice with freedom and confidence, while silencing your inner critic. We will use charcoal, graphite, and even move into color. This class is for adults and mature teens of all skill levels and all materials are included. Remember to bring your headphones; listening to your favorite music while drawing is encouraged!

The second week of this class will be in our printmaking studio, which is accessible only by stairs.
