An Artist's Journey in the Arctic Circle

Free

with Ada Pilar Cruz

Calendar Current session started Mar 3, 2024 at 2 pm
1 additional session on Mar 3, 2024

“What are artists doing in the Arctic?”

A presentation by artist and teacher, Ada Pilar Cruz

Ada Pilar Cruz, an artist and teacher at Garrison Art Center, embarked on a unique journey this past October 2023 to the Arctic Circle on the Barquentine tall ship called the Antigua. For twenty days she and 29 other artists sailed around the Svalbard archipelago stopping to hike through dunes of snow, to trapper huts, and science, weather, and space research stations to both experience the landscape, and its seemingly eternal ice, and bear witness to dying glaciers and a melting environment. Through her presentation and work, she invites others to join her in reflecting on the fragile beauty of the Arctic environment and the importance of preserving its pristine wilderness. Ada's journey serves as a powerful reminder of the profound connection between art, nature, and human experience.

Ada will present her experience and the artwork she created using seaweed, on this amazing once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Join us for this conversation with Ada about her creative journey to the Arctic.
