Take a workshop while visiting Garrison Craft! This workshop includes a same-day ticket to Garrison Craft, GAC’s leading, modern craft show in the Hudson Valley, showcasing a curated collection of craft makers, designers, and artists. In this two-hour, hands-on workshop, you'll explore Itajime Shibori, a traditional Japanese resist-dye technique that uses folding and clamping fabric to create patterns. Teaching artist Katrin Reifeiss will guide you through how to fold fabric in various ways and use clamps with plexiglass or wood shapes, to resist the dye. Everyone will have the chance to dye their pieces in an indigo vat!

We will provide tea towels for you to dye. If you are interested in dyeing additional items, you are welcome to bring your own washed, natural fiber items to dye—cotton, linen, hemp, silk, wool, rayon, or blends of these work well. Avoid anything oversized (no sheets or duvet covers, please). Items like t-shirts, scarves, pillowcases, tea towels, or clothing are perfect. 

Please bring plastic bags to take your dyed items home.

No experience is necessary—just a curiosity to experiment with pattern, shape, and indigo. Children aged 10 and up are welcome with an accompanying adult.
