Intro to Mokuhanga
with Ezra Heller
Japanese woodblock printing, or Mokuhanga, is one of the oldest methods of full color printing, and is completely nontoxic and water-based. In this class, students will learn carving technique, kento registration, and the inking and printing of Mokuhanga blocks in multiple layers. This class is open to adults and mature teens of all skill levels and all materials are included.
Students have access to 6 hours per week of open studio time to practice and work on projects outside of class.
There is no class on February 17

Silkscreen Printing

There is no class February 18.
Screen printing is a rich, expressive, and versatile medium. This course will cover all of the basics of screen preparation and printing. Express your ideas using hand-drawn, digital, or photographic techniques. Experimentation is encouraged! Printing on paper, wood, fabric, metal, and glass is possible. Previous printmaking experience is not required.
This class is for adults and mature teenagers of all skill levels and includes 2 hours a week of open studio time. All materials are included.

Drawing and Painting from Life

On-going sessions for those who want to work on their own to develop and refine their techniques of drawing and painting from the live model. Short poses. Bring your own materials. Sculpture
with James Murray
First class is on SUNDAY, February 9. All following classes will be on SATURDAY.
Explore almost any material you can bring in (excluding welding) with James Murray.
Work inside (and outside) the studio of sculptor, and master woodworker, James Murray. Learn to use tools (safely) in Jim’s well-tooled workspace, including an introduction to basic woodworking. Blend various materials including wood, stone, and metal into sculpture. Bring those found objects to class and create a new work of art or bring that project that you might be wrestling with and finally bring it to completion.
Introduction to steam wood bending applied to sculpture and furniture.

Drawing Details of the Human Body

In this class we will explore the intricacies of drawing hands, feet, and facial features. A step-by-step approach will make these challenging anatomical elements more accessible. This class is open to anyone looking to enhance their drawing skills and knowledge. A live model will be provided for reference.

Wet Felting Fundamentals
with Carlise Azmitia
Go in-depth into felting using the wet felt technique. Wet felt has been used for centuries throughout the world to make hats, coats, scarves, shoes, purses; the list goes on. Learn how different fibers react to water, soap, and agitation to give you a usable fabric. You'll be shown methods to make flat felt, cords, and working with a resist to create a three dimensional and continuous seam. Everything you've wanted to know to get you started felting will be in this class. This class is open to adults and mature teens of all skill levels and all materials are included.

Winter Break Workshop for Kids (K-5th grade)

Ages: 5 - 11
Looking for something engaging for your kid to do while school is out? Have your child join us for Winter Workshop for Kids on Presidents Day! They will explore a variety of art-making methods and materials with their favorite Garrison Art Center teaching artists. Our in-person program for kindergarteners-5th graders will take place in our studios at Garrison Art Center. Please have your child bring lunch, a snack, a water bottle, and coats/clothes for going outside. Price includes all materials.

Still Life Drawing and Painting
