Little Artists in a Big World
with Kat Boss

Ages: 7 - 12
In Little Artists in a Big World, young learners will embark on a creative journey exploring art across continents and cultures. This hands-on course introduces students to the lives and styles of artists from Asia and Africa—regions often underrepresented in standard classroom art history.
Through storytelling, visual exploration, and discussion, students will discover traditional and contemporary works from around the world. They’ll then bring their learning to life with inspired art projects, including a collaborative oversized landscape painting of Garrison Landing in the intricate style of Chinese artist Wang Ximeng. Weather permitting, students will also take a nature walk, observing the world around them and creating their own bold patterns inspired by African textiles—exploring ideas of visual rhythm, symbolism, and design rooted in natural forms.
This class nurtures global curiosity, cultural appreciation, and creative cooperation, showing children how art connects us all. This class is for children 7-12 years old of all skill levels, and all materials are included.

Zines & Mini Comics for Teens
with Kat Boss

Ages: 13 - 19
Discover the world of zines and mini comics—DIY booklets that mix art, writing, and self-expression. In this hands-on class, you'll learn about the history of zines, from underground punk scenes and sci-fi fan clubs to personal storytelling and collage art. Each week, you'll explore a different theme, like silent comics, perzines (personal zines), collage/catalog zines, or subcultures, and create your own short pieces inspired by that focus.
You’ll draft, share, and develop your work through group activities and independent projects, while learning easy DIY methods to print and assemble your creations. No fancy equipment or experience needed—just your ideas and creativity.
At the end of each 4-week session, we’ll celebrate by trading copies of our zines and mini comics, building a collection of unique voices and styles from the whole class. This class is for teenagers of all skill levels and all materials are included.

Building Blocks of Watercolors: Techniques
with Greta Corens

In the Watercolor Techniques sessions, students get hands-on with a variety of brushwork and watercolor methods. They explore everything from wet-on-wet and dry brush to lifting, glazing, masking, and more—starting with loose washes and moving into more detailed studies. These sessions are all about building technical skills and deepening your understanding of color and value. As students grow more confident, they start applying what they've learned to painting landscapes and seascapes, picking up new techniques along the way. We check in on progress through evaluations that focus on technical skills, refinement, and the development of each student’s personal style. While this session is best for those already comfortable with colors and values, both are considered essential building blocks. Materials are not included; here is a suggested supply list.

Drawing from Observation
with Lori Sanford Ross

No class on October 31st + November 28th
In this inventive, ongoing drawing class, students will learn new ways to express their experience of the visual world through drawing.
Using dynamic set-ups, still life, and natural objects, each class is devoted to drawing from observation with ease. Specific elements of realistic drawing – such as positive/negative space, perspective, proportion, value, composition, etc. — will be demonstrated and practiced. For inspiration, we will study the drawings of Rembrandt, Durer, Van Gogh, Cezanne and several contemporary artists, in order to see through their eyes more deeply. The goal of this class is for students to develop a joyful drawing practice with freedom and confidence, while silencing the narrative of the inner critic. Questions are encouraged, and gentle homework assignments will be suggested.
This class is appropriate for anyone who loves to draw! Students of all skill levels are welcomed, and all materials are included. Feel free to bring any favorite drawing supplies or sketchbooks.
