Creative Happy Hour: Vegetable Printed Tea Towels or Napkins
with Candace Winter

Just in time for that most famous dinner! Grab an artichoke or maybe an onion or two. Teaching artist Candace Winter has opened the fridge and filled a basket of veggies…to print with!
Vegetable printing is an incredibly fun and rewarding way to create art. Practice printing and making designs and then choose what you like to go on a set of 4 napkins or 2 tea towels. You will be amazed at how wonderful they look. They make a fantastic hostess gift, or keep them for yourself! Napkins and tea towels are provided; please indicate when enrolling if you would prefer to make a set of napkins or tea towels.
Each Creative Happy Hour features a professional teaching artist leading a project, drinks (wine and non-alcoholic), and a chance to be creative in a special place. When possible, our galleries will be open during this event, so you also have the opportunity to take in the latest exhibition. No previous art experience is needed, just the desire to relax and have fun!
This workshop is only for individuals 21 years of age and older.

Sashiko Visible Mending
with Rachel Barclay

Visible Mending celebrates resourcefulness and sustainability by showcasing hand stitching rather than hiding it. This workshop will highlight the act of mending with Sashiko Japanese Embroidery. With humble beginnings in rural Japan, Sashiko’s running stitch insulated work garments for warmth and longevity. Moving into contemporary times around the globe, the bold, geometric beauty of Sashiko continues to both strengthen and decorate fabrics.
Students will learn how to patch and repair a rip or hole, reinforce a worn area, and prepare their distressed textile in order to draw a Sashiko pattern of their choice. Participants will employ the “small stabs” Sashiko stitching technique to repair or embellish their project!
Bring in one or two garments to assess for mending or decorating. Ideally, areas to repair will be no larger than four inches. Denim looks amazing with Sashiko stitching. Medium-weight, woven cotton fabrics also work well; such as cotton or linen shirts, pants, cotton dresses.
This workshop is for adults and mature teens of all skill levels, and all materials are included, including Sashiko needles, a skein of thread, sustainably sourced patches, and take-home pattern instructions. All skill levels are welcome, from novice to veteran hand stitchers!
Please be sure to wear your good reading glasses.
