Developing Your Drawing Practice

$225

with Lori Sanford Ross

Calendar Current session started Apr 20, 2024 at 2 pm, runs for 4 weeks
1 additional session on Jun 1, 2024

This class is for anyone who loves to draw! In this inventive, ongoing drawing class, students will learn new ways to express their experience of the visual world through drawing. Using dynamic set-ups, still life, and natural objects, each class is devoted to drawing from observation with ease. Specific elements of realistic drawing – such as positive/negative space, perspective, proportion, value, composition, etc. — will be demonstrated and practiced. For inspiration, we will study the drawings of Rembrandt, Durer, Van Gogh, Cezanne, and several contemporary artists, in order to see through their eyes more deeply. The goal of this class is for students to develop a joyful drawing practice with freedom and confidence while silencing the narrative of the inner critic. Questions are encouraged, and gentle homework assignments will be suggested but not required.  This class is for adults and mature teens of all skill levels, and all materials are included. Feel free to bring any favorite drawing supplies or sketchbooks.

There is no class on May 11.

Cameras that can be used for this class range from smartphones to DSLR’s and mirrorless. The course will also cover post-processing using apps as well as demonstrations of computer based software such as Photoshop and Lightroom. Creative Happy Hour: Geode Dyeing

with Candace Winter

Calendar Next available session starts May 22, 2024 at 6 pm, runs for 1 week
1 additional session on May 23, 2024

Two Sessions Available

This is not just your run-of-the-mill tie-dye!

Geode dyeing is a very fun technique where you tie and dye fabric in such a way that it ends up looking like a geode rock formation; anything from small polka dots to large concentric circles. This technique uses a length of cord bound around a bundle of fabric, creating a great diversity of different shapes that come out so amazingly beautiful!

Each participant will receive two pillowcases to dye and bring home. Each Creative Happy Hour features a professional teaching artist leading a project, drinks (wine and non-alcoholic), and a chance to be creative in a special place. When possible, our galleries will be open during this event, so you also have the opportunity to take in the latest exhibition. No previous art experience is needed, just the desire to relax and have fun!

This workshop is only for individuals 21 years of age and older.

Our class/workshop cancelation policy can be found here.
