Our Classes
Monthly Print Studio Pass
Take advantage of our fully equipped printmaking studio and work on our own projects on your own time! This pass gives you unlimited access to our print studio during open studio hours for one month.This is not a class and is for experienced printmakers only. Artists are responsible for their own ink and paper. Open Studio hours will be sent to all registrants.
We require anyone new to our print studio to set up a time to meet with a member of our staff so we can show you the studio and answer any questions in person. Please contact info@garrisonartcenter.org to make an appointment.

Seasonal Print Studio Pass

This is not a class and is for experienced printmakers only. Artists are responsible for their own ink and paper. Open Studio hours will be sent to all registrants.

Adult Pottery: daytime classes
with GAC Team
Seven different day/times available, check other listings for evening classes
Join us to learn or further develop your clay skills on the wheel or hand-building (or both!) This multi-level class is designed for those with and without prior clay experience and is open to adults and mature high school students. Beginners will learn to center on the potter’s wheel and practice making basic thrown pots in addition to learning basic glazing techniques. Intermediate and advanced students will strengthen existing skills and add new ones to their repertoire. Class runs for 10 weeks and includes 8 hours a week of open studio time. Materials and firing fees are not included.
This is a mixed-level pottery class, which may include beginners, intermediate, and advanced-level students. We find having students of varied skill levels can create an enriched learning experience for all participants.
There is no class May 12, May 26, and May 27.

Handbuilding and Sculpture Techniques
with Ada Pilar Cruz
Explore creating dynamic clay sculptures in this advanced hand-building class with teaching artist and sculptor Ada Pilar Cruz. This class is open to both sculptors as well as potters working in a sculptural way. Class runs for 10 weeks and includes 8 hours a week of open studio time. Materials and firing fees are not included.

Children's Pottery
with Renee Curci Ivanoff
Three different days are available.
Our teaching artist, Renee Curci Ivanoff, will guide young artists through the techniques of working with clay: pinch, slab, coil, and wheel. Students will be introduced to both hand-building and the pottery wheel. Continuing students will develop and push their skills in all ways with adaptive projects that will meet everyone at their own level. This class is for students ages 7-12 of all skill levels.

Experiments in Glaze Chemistry
with Lisa Knaus
Garrison Art Center is pleased to offer a new monthly evening class for advanced clay students! In this class, we will channel our inner mad scientists and focus on exploring different glaze chemical reactions. We will conduct glaze experiments, test them in different firing processes, and share our findings with each other to further our understanding of the results.
This class will meet on April 10, May 8, and June 12 (once a month, for three months) and is open to current GAC pottery students with at least one year of experience in clay.

Family Clay Studio
with Renee Curci Ivanoff
For kids from 7 to 17 plus you, their family member! Set a date with your child, niece, nephew, or friend, and join us on Saturday mornings. Have fun creating, exploring, and working with clay together. Family Clay Studio is a wonderful way to share and create with clay. You’ll work together learning how to hand-build, throw on the wheel, glaze, and learn a bit about the kiln. Your glazed and fired pieces will be your clay treasures to take home. Class runs for 8 weeks and includes materials and firing fees.
This class is for families ONLY, not for individuals. Price is by the individual, please purchase a spot for each family member.
There is no class on May 11 and May 25.
